HW and I were planning to go to the Tampines Eco Green but due to some last minute changes, we decided to go to the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk instead, not remembering the washed out trip I had previously (Morning Walk At Punggol Promenade Nature Walk (24 Feb 2018)). To our great dismay the place is now completely under residential construction, leaving only a 3 meter strip of vegetation, running parallel to the boarding that fenced the construction site.
Not many critters were found and this 10 mm Praying Mantis was a welcomed subject for my test shooting.
Sadly the place was over taken by the Beggar's Tick (Bidens pilosa). Not a single insect was found on these plants, not even the commonly encountered grasshoppers. The upside is that it is prettier than the Air Potato Plants that are or had taken over many parts of our nature parks and reserves.
As expected, it was only after a while of walking and searching before this lone Chafer Beetle was found munching on a small plant that managed to survive the harsh environment. This looked very much like the Apogonia expeditionis Chafer Beetle but differed by the subtle brownish elytra.
More walking before another lone Chafer Beetle (Apogonia expeditionis) was encountered.
The last beetle for the trip was this brownish Chafer Beetle that was clinging to a blade of Elephant Grass (Pennisetum purpureum).
This is likely the very last time that I will visit the place as the nature has gone out of the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk. I think NParks has to rename to Punggol Promenade Walk instead. Nevertheless, this is a sad and common occurrence in our rapidly developing urban Singapore.
